Simile Analysis Two: Goo Goo Dolls Iris

Iris Lyrics

And I'd give up forever to touch you,
Cause I know that you feel me somehow.
You're the closest to heaven that I'll ever be,
And I don't want to go home right now.

And all I can taste is this moment,
And all I can breathe is your life,
And sooner or later it's over,
I just don't want to miss you tonight

And I don't want the world to see me,
Cause I don't think that they'd understand.
When everything's made to be broken,
I just want you to know who I am.

And you cant fight the tears that ain't coming,
Or the moment of the truth in your lies.
When everything feels like the movies,
Yeah you bleed just to know you're alive.

And I don't want the world to see me,
'Cause I don't think that they'd understand.
When everything's made to be broken,
I just want you to know who I am.
And I don't want the world to see me,
Cause I don't think that they'd understand.
When everything's made to be broken,
I just want you to know who I am.

And I don't want the world to see me,
Cause I dont think that they'd understand.
When everything's made to be broken,
I just want you to know who I am.
I just want you to know who I am.
I just want you to know who I am.
I just want you to know who I am.

The simile in this song is in the line "When everything feels like the movies, yeah you bleed just to know your alive." What this simile means is that when everything and everyone around you feels fake and nothing feels real or right, you just need something to know that your real even if nothing else is. This relates to my theme of society because society can feel like there is nothing real about it and can swallow you whole till you don't even know if your real or not either. This song also relates when he says "And I don't wan the world to see me, cause I don't think that they'd understand." this means that he doesn't want to show himself to the world because he is afraid that that society will judge him and will not understand him.
