Metaphor Analysis One: The White Stripes-Little Acorns

Little Acorns

Take all your problems
And rip 'em apart

Carry them off
In a shopping cart

And another thing
You should've known from the start
The problems in hand
Are lighter than at heart

Be like the squirrel, girl
Be like the squirrel
Give it a whirl, girl
Be like the squirrel

And another thing
You have to know in this world
Cut up your hair
Straighten your curls

Well, your problems
Hide in your curls

This song is all an extended metaphor. The meaning of this song is that society tells you to take all your problems and everything unhappy that has happened to you in your life and to rip them up and forget about them. To just get over them. It also says that society tells you to just keep burrowing and to "keep collecting little acorns." When it says "well, your problems hide in your curls." This means that your problems are only the things that make you different, and to not have problems you have to not be different at all.
